GROWING GUIDE

Sow at any time of year.

  • Sow well spaced on the surface of a moist, well drained seed compost in pots or trays.
  • Seal in a polythene bag or place in a propagator and maintain a temperature of 15-18C somewhere with plenty of light.
  • Germination should begin after 14 days. though some seeds may take 2 months or more.
  • Keep checking to make sure the compost does not dry out - it should be slightly moist.

  • As the seedlings emerge, increase ventilation by opening the bag or propagator vents.
  • Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 9cm pots.
  • Grow on in slightly cooler conditions with plenty of light, but shaded from direct sun.
  • When established, in mid spring gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions by placing plants outside during the day for 2 weeks before planting out.
  • Young plants need frost protection for the first few winters. If planted in the garden, wrap in fleece and move containers to a frost free place.
