The hardiest and most popular Passion Flower is the Blue Passion Flower from South America. The complex flowers are borne in abundance and come in a striking colour combination of white and green, zoned with blue, purple and white. With plenty of sun, this superb climber will produce yellow or orange fruit in late summer to autumn. Best grown against a warm, sheltered wall away from cold winds, and as such makes an ideal plant for a courtyard garden. In cold areas, protect the roots in winter and it will regrow every year. Although germination can be erratic, Passiflora are easy to raise from seed, very vigorous and do well in pots.

GROWING GUIDE
Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year. Sow in pots at a depth of 4mm into a free draining damp seed compost, seal in a polythene bag or place in a propagator and maintain at about 21C. Keep the compost moist, but not over wet. Germination can take anywhere from 7 days to 3 months.
If any seeds still haven’t germinated after 3 months, transfer the container in its bag to the fridge for a further 3 months, then return the container to 21C and germination should occur.
Growing Instructions: When seedlings are large enough to handle, pot up individually into 7.5cm pots and grow on in slightly cooler conditions, repotting as necessary.
For hardy species, plant out in late spring after hardening off the plants by placing them outside during the day for a week and keep well watered until established. For tender species, pot up in their containers using a free draining houseplant compost and place in a well lit, sunny spot away from draughts and keep well watered.
