GROWING GUIDE

Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year.  Sow thinly on the surface of a good, free draining damp seed compost (eg. John Innes). Cover the seed with a light sprinkling of sieved compost, seal inside a polythene bag and maintain at 18-22C for 4 weeks. After this time move the seeds to the fridge or place outside in winter for 6 weeks – recommended temperature is around 4C. Next, move to a slightly higher temperature of up to about 12C. Germination takes 14-21 days and can be erratic hence the need to sow the seeds as thinly as possible. Check the container regularly to make sure the compost does not dry out.

Growing Instructions: When seedlings are large enough to handle, remove them carefully from the container and pot up individually into 7.5cm pots. Grow on in cooler conditions, about 12-15C, in good, natural light, but avoid direct sunlight. When conditions allow, gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions, before planting out in the border or in pots.
